The author introduces the project called Unification of the Use of Codes for Languages and Scripts in COBISS.Net, completed at IZUM in November 2007. As a result of the changes to the list of codes for languages a conversion of encrypted data on the language had to be carried out.
The paper describes the creation of the bibliographical collection called Biomedicina Slovenica (BS) and its connection to the COBISS system. BS is a specialised bibliographical collection for the area of biomedicine in the process of development by the Institute of Biomedical Informatics of the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana since 1976.
The quality of bibliographic records in the COBIB.SI shared bibliographic database and all local bibliographic databases is key to the high performance COBISS.SI system.
The article presents the way in which bibliographic information quality is assured within the COBISS.SI shared cataloguing. A special emphasis has been given on the activities related to the implementation of the provisions of the Rules on Issuing the Permission for Shared Cataloguing.
Cataloguing rules strongly influence the quality of bibliographic data, which is made obvious through the COBISS system, where data has to be transferred to the system’s data format.
The article presents the course of the preparation and experience of Specialised Information Centres (OSIC) with the verification of bibliographic units according to the typology of documents in the COBISS system within the framework of the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS).
The project of developing the COBISS.SI General List of Subject Headings (SGC) has been running since 2000, in cooperation between the Institute of Information Science (Institut informacijskih znanosti, IZUM) and six Central Specialised Information Centres.
