The article presents the way in which bibliographic information quality is assured within the COBISS.SI shared cataloguing. A special emphasis has been given on the activities related to the implementation of the provisions of the Rules on Issuing the Permission for Shared Cataloguing.

Presented in this paper are the very beginnings of library automation in Slovenia, the current state and issues. A special emphasis is given on the automation level of larger libraries which, for the most part, are full members of the COBISS.SI system.
