Through the development of information and communication technologies, articles in electronic form have emerged. The journal Slovenian Nursing Review (Obzornik zdravstvene nege) also gained another media for transferring information, and this article presents the results of a study, in which users’ online behaviour was observed and the journal’s website traffic was measured. In the observed four-year time period 2009–2013, a total of 94,903 visits were recorded, 51,692 among them were unique visitors, mostly from Slovenia, and 50% of new visitors on average. The keyword most commonly used for searching was Obzornik zdravstvene nege; Internet Explorer was the most frequently used web browser, even though the use of Firefox and Chrome is also increasing. The most frequently used operation system is Windows, while the most web referral traffic came from search engines. Also presented are the 50 most frequently viewed volumes and issues. By updating the website and creating a digital archive, the editorial board of the Slovenian Nursing Review achieved a larger readership, more visibility and easier access to published contents in the area of nursing and midwifery. Free access to full-text articles from 1954 onwards will also contribute towards a larger national and international recognition of the Slovenian Nursing Review.
The article presents upgrades and features of the new SICRIS application version, based on updated trasfer of data from ARRS, migration to open source environment and updated web services. In 2022, the project of migration from the Windows platform (MS SQL, ASP.NET, IIS) to the Linux platform (PostgreSQL, Java EE, Wildfly) was completed.
Based on (1) the lists of Slovenian scientific journals in international databases used to evaluate publications by Slovenian researchers, (2) regular government calls for support of scientific journals, and (3) a more detailed review of the main international bibliographic databases for this system (SNIP, JCR, SJR), we can conclude that 219 Slovenian journals with scientific articles were published in 2021. Every second journal was founded after 1990, and about 60% of them belong to social sciences and humanities. Their publishers are Slovenian institutions and the journals are diamond journals: only 7.7% of journals are affiliated with major global publishers and only 3.7% use APC (Article Processing Charge).
The open access as a new bussiness model in scientific communication can have an impact on citations of scientific publications, which has been researched a lot. This article presents an analysis of the echo time, which indicates the period from publishing an article to the time of its first citation. The analysis of the echo time was made in two phases.
ZUM developed the COBISS/SciMet portal to monitor scientific publications and to evaluate publications published by Slovenian authors. The methodology of collecting, aggregating and processing data on Slovenian authors obtained from different information resources, e.g. WoS, Scopus, COBISS.SI, SICRIS, SNIP and JCR is described. The options of data display within the portal and the functionalities of the portal are presented. A new framework used for developing the COBISS/SciMet web application is presented.
Academic and research libraries/librarians were always important partners to the scientific research community. As a result of developments in scholarly communication, information resources availability in electronic form, networks and national research policies librarians are challenged to find new ways to engage with research communities.
In 2005, Hirsch developed the today commonly known and widely used h-index, the shortest quantitative indicator of the cumulative influence and relevance of the academic work of an individual researcher, a research group or an institution (university, institute, journal, etc.).
The definition of bibliometrics as quantitative analysis of publications is followed by a brief outline of the history of the journal Organizacija znanja (Organisation of Knowledge; continuation of Cobiss obvestila). In addition to that, the following quantitative characteristics of this publication are analysed: authors, topics, citations. The conclusion focuses on the future development of Organizacija znanja.
Eugene Garfield has provided a basis for the development and growth of scientometrics and promotion of sociology of science with his Current Contents and in particular with the Science Citation Index.
