The paper gives a new insight into the cataloguing practice in the COBISS.SI system, primarily regarding the necessity of bibliographic data for the management of bibliographies for researchers and research organisations. The paper evaluates two areas in the cataloguing practice, both of them optional but recommended.
Online learning in the COBISS.SI community
As part of its mission in the Slovenian librarianship sphere, IZUM puts great emphasis on education and training. Today’s way of life is very information- and technology-oriented, and e-learning with its online access to contents can additionally improve information literacy and also the quality of lifelong learning as a basic human right.
Federacija COBISS AAI: Avtentikacijsko-avtorizacijska infrastruktura COBISS
IZUM and libraries offer their users numerous information services and most of them require user login. Login is carried out on the basis of a username and password and enables the user’s authentication and authorisation. IZUM manages such a mechanism based on identity data and other information about the members within the COBISS system. This year, a single sign-on system was introduced via the Shibboleth software component and the COBISS AAI Federation.
Povezivanje baza i servisa sistema COBISS.SI sa različitim informacionim servisima
The COBISS.SI system provides, in addition to online cooperation when cataloguing material and online access to library catalogues, also the use and connection of library databases with various other information systems and services. Firstly, the article describes various uses of databases in other information systems.
Bibliografski zapisi iz COBIB.SI v WorldCat
The paper describes the upload of bibliographic records from the COBIB.SI shared database as well as holdings data of certain Slovenian libraries into WorldCat, the Online Union Catalogue. In 2009, the initial upload of records was made and a regular quarterly upload followed.

The Institute of Information Science (Institut informacijskih znanosti, IZUM), Maribor, and six Specialised Information Centres operating within the University of Ljubljana, and the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts participate in the project described in this article.
