Ročna ali računalniško podprta kategorizacija znanstvenih publikacij?

For evaluating research performance a reliable bibliographic base is required; in this respect, Slovenian state bodies responsible for allocating public funds for this purpose rely on COBISS. In addition to the Institute of Information Science (IZUM) and Central Specialised Information Centres (OSIC), a special commission at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts has been active in this field in recent years. Its proposals, however, are questionable from several points of view due to both an incomplete knowledge of COBISS and a rather hazy distinction between classification by typology and categorisation related to the evaluation of bibliographic items. Problems that will be encountered by the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) if it adopts such proposals uncritically and, consequently, amends the regulatory framework, are addressed. A model of computer-assisted categorisation of scientific publications and an example of trial categorisation are presented.
