The article addresses the issue of the cataloguing rules used in Slovenia within the COBISS shared cataloguing system. The outdated cataloguing codes (PPIAK, AIK), and undocumented updates, modifications, and cataloguing practice from the last 14 years have created in the time of high-speed technological changes more and more difficulties in the development and operation of the COBISS system.
Within the framework of the Ministry of Science and Technology the Branch Information Centres for biomedicine, biotechniques, social sciences, humanities, natural sciences and engineering have taken on a task to prepare a general unified list of subject headings for the COBISS system.
Searching the Web and the Internet may be ineffective when we use improper search tools and do not understand the basics about these tools. The situation changes noticeably when we have basic skills which allow us both to select search tools suitable for us and make better use of them.
The conception of translation and translating methods has been changing since Saint Jarome, though the general definition of translation as the transfer of message and its content in one language into another language remains valid. Erroneous perspectives concerning the role of translators can be disturbing to their work.
