A profession is, above all, defined by the work it performs in the social division of labour. The traditional profession of a librarian has no monopoly on the work carried out by a digital librarian. The profession of a digital librarian has little in common with the traditional profession of a librarian.

The article is one of the results reached within the frames of a broader project Selective bibliography of key contributions to the development of the information science, in which the authors have been involved since 1995. The result of the project should be a special bibliographical history of the information science.

According to their purpose user studies belong to the information science, according to their methods (questionnaire, interview, focus group) they belong to the named older social sciences.

Despite having published numerous works as information scientist in the English language between 1958 and 1980, and literature on him too, so that there is no languge barrier, today, Božo Težak is only locally known as the founder of the information science (informatology) in Croatia.
