Ali Slovenija noče informacijske znanosti?

Although the information age and information society have been marked by it, information science has not been added to the research classification scheme of the Slovenian Research Agency (Agencija za raziskovalno dejavnost Republike Slovenije, ARRS) and of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (Statistični urad Republike Slovenije, SURS). Similarly, no suitable title for the professional group dealing with information science can be found in the valid index of occupational titles and in the standard classification of occupations in Slovenia. The history of information science started 100 years ago. From the end of the 19th century to the end of the first half of the 20th century, it developed under the name documentation, and from then on it has been continuously developing under the name information science. Since the 1990s, the historiography of information science has been rapidly developing as well. In a large number of countries nowadays, information science is a universal (implemented everywhere in the developed world), cumulative (developing) science with organised professional groups. Information science should therefore be added to the research classification scheme of the Slovenian Research Agency and of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, and the title of informatologist should be included in the index of occupational titles and in the standard classification of occupations as soon as possible.
