The paper presents the contributions of participants at the consultation on scientific and professional publications on e-journals at the beginning of the 1990s, which was organised at the Institute of Information Science (IZUM) in Maribor in December 1991. The emphasis is also placed on IZUM's e-bulletin, which was entered into one of the first directories of e-journals and other e-bulletins worldwide from the same year. Communication is the essence of scientific progress, particularly e-journals. The advantages and disadvantages of e-journals are listed. Citation and other factors of research and business success of online and printed scientific and professional journals are presented. The importance of transparency for the quality and selection of a scientific and professional journal for publishing original and other scientific articles is evaluated. Falsification of critical rationalism is emphasised as an effective replacement for the classic observation and induction research method as a new criterion for the distinction (demarcation) between scientific theory and pseudoscience. E-journals have changed the fundamental processes in science, education, work, employment, information exchange and scientific information and communication, and, in synergy with the emergence of big data, brought about a new scientific paradigm for the understanding of findings and knowledge. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of reading scientific literature.
