COBIB.SI: increment of bibliographic records in 2016

The article shows the analysis of the annual increment of bibliographic records in COBIB.SI in 2016 by month and by day; records were contributed by cataloguers from 252 libraries. According to the data as of 31 December 2016, 181,535 new bibliographic records were created in COBIB.SI in 2016; the data for 177,486 bibliographic records is analysed and presented. At the end of the year, the monthly increment of bibliographic records increased, which can be contributed to the records for theses and dissertations.

CRIS and JSON

The E-CRIS web applications representing research activities in countries that participate in the COBISS.Net system make it possible to access data in the XML format adjusted for communication among computers. Internal IZUM applications and different applications of scientific institutions access the data. In 2016, access to a wider data set in the JSON format was made possible.

COBIB.SI: increment of bibliographic records in 2015

The article shows the annual increment of bibliographic records in COBIB.SI in 2015. The data on the increment by months and by days was analysed. With a total increment of 27.88%, November, October and January were the leading months, the increment was a little over 9% in each of these months. In 2015 the largest number of bibliographic records was created on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

IZUM as a UNESCO Regional Centre

At its 36th General Assembly in November 2011, UNESCO adopted the decision to grant IZUM the status of a category 2 centre. One year later, the Agreement between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Republic of Slovenia was signed in Paris, specifying and defining IZUM’s functions as a regional category 2 centre under the auspices of UNESCO. The most significant events and our reflections after three years of performing this function are presented.

Information resources in the academic environment

Learning and knowledge acquisition with new forms of learning in the education process is based on one”s construction and deconstruction of meaning and the learner”s interaction with the world in a certain social and cultural environment. Each person is responsible for their own learning and how to manage it. As active learning is based on independent and active engagement in the teaching and learning process, finding and gathering information from various sources is an important part of any form of learning and teaching, particularly in the academic environment.

COBISS/SciMet

ZUM developed the COBISS/SciMet portal to monitor scientific publications and to evaluate publications published by Slovenian authors. The methodology of collecting, aggregating and processing data on Slovenian authors obtained from different information resources, e.g. WoS, Scopus, COBISS.SI, SICRIS, SNIP and JCR is described. The options of data display within the portal and the functionalities of the portal are presented. A new framework used for developing the COBISS/SciMet web application is presented.

Stalni odbor UNIMARC: strateški cilji in aktivnosti

For more than twenty years, the Permanent UNIMARC Committee (PUC) has been directing the development of four UNIMARC formats; two of them enable international exchange of bibliographic and authority data, whereas the other two formats support high quality standardised operation of library and bibliographic systems. In the last decade, the most important tasks performed by PUC have included UNIMARC data transfer to the web, FRBR model implementation and independent development of formats to ensure their compatibility with various cataloguing rules.
