The COBISS.SI system provides, in addition to online cooperation when cataloguing material and online access to library catalogues, also the use and connection of library databases with various other information systems and services. Firstly, the article describes various uses of databases in other information systems.
The COBISS.MK system and shared cataloguing represent key issues in the field of librarianship for Macedonia. Research reveals that cataloguers are satisfied with the COBISS2/Cataloguing software module and that the quality of bibliographic records depends primarily on cataloguers’ familiarity with cataloguing rules and on their use of manuals.
A new online user interface SICRIS, V3, was developed. Responsive web design concepts and support for mobile devices and touchscreens on the basis of jQuery Mobile framework were taken into account. Public access allows all functionalities of the previous version, and some new functionalities, such as advanced search, were added.
The main aim of a mobile app should be to ensure the largest possible degree of success, efficiency and satisfaction experienced by the users when reaching their goals, i.e. usability. In order to achieve it, the designers and developers of mobile apps must consider standards, recommendations and guidelines, which is the right path towards a high-quality product where the user interface and the contents are united into a homogenous whole. Only a mobile app adapted to its users will encourage them to use it and will satisfy their needs.
The concept of authentication and authorisation infrastructure represents a shift from the standard ways of “omnia mea mecum porto”, where every information service or application (both web and desktop) maintains its own system of user data. A system built on mutual trust separates the authentication part from the authorisation part.
The Internet is the driving force of the modern world. The fundamental technology for its operation is Internet protocol. Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) was developed forty years ago and not enough address space was planned for today’s demands. Consequently, mechanisms were already starting to form to extend the IPv4 address space and develop the new version 6 (IPv6) in the past millennium.
Language is an important factor of economic development; translation and localisation are necessary for the overall progress and economic development. In the European Union, language is key and English is no longer sufficient for the development of a common language policy; they are now striving to achieve a situation where every European would speak at least two foreign languages. In science, the number of publications in the researchers’ mother tongues has increased and publishing in English is no longer a sign of prestige.
The paper presents the situation in Serbian village libraries. It also points out that these libraries do not keep pace with the development of library and information activities in Serbia and that among their users, similar to those in public libraries in cities, there is only a small number of farmers.
In 1901, the Slovenian newspapers Slovenec and Slovenski narod uniformly reported on the fight for the Slovenian university, although they represented two different political options and were too many times biased in their reporting on current issues. At times, they were even very offensive towards the leaders of the opposition party.
Musicology is in danger of becoming an “orchid-like profession” with no significant role in understanding the spirit of the time because it has remained too concerned with the glorification of the 19th century’s Eurocentric composers. What we need is comparative musicology to capture all the complexity of music – the phenomenon that is deeply implanted in our consciousness and is present in many areas of human life, such as cults, politics, medical treatment, work and law.
