The reference service is an important part of every library, whose purpose is to help users find the information they want and need in order to satisfy their information needs. With the increasing influence of information-technology is also developing tools that allow users remote access to reference services, irrespective of whether they are members of any library. In Slovenia, there is a digital reference service "Ask a Librarian", which operates within a system Cobiss.si. In order to verify the user’s experience of the digital reference service and their evaluation of this system, a survey was conducted in which the questionnaire method was used. The survey was conducted in the university library OHK of the Department of Library, Information Science and Book Studies, Faculty of Arts, in the Central Technological Library and in the public library of Srečko Kosovel Sežana. The service is largely known by respondents surveyed in public library and university library. However, even if they know the service, they rarely use it. Results of the survey in special libraries are completely different, because the users almost do not know and do not apply the service. To increase use and visibility would be required to plan education and promotion of use of this service.
