Some compare changes to the ways of communication, life and business caused by social media to the changes that industrial revolution has brought to human civilisation. Number of users of the Facebook social network is approaching 600 million; Wikipedia contains more than 14 million articles in 260 languages.
Computer software is intended for the user who today has to deal with two different models of its use and development: the dominant commercial model of proprietary closed-source software on one hand, and open-source software solutions on the other.
With the article we attempt to set out the principles of organization of libraries of the armed forces in Slovenia. In order to learn more about the organization of libraries, we have analyzed the literature and visited some of the libraries.
The development of IT significantly affects traditional teaching and learning and it slowly changes them into e-teaching and e-learning. Such a development requires from all participants in educational systems to follow the IT development and build their own information literacy in the Web 2.0 environment.
The import of bibliographic records for electronic books from Springer Publishing House to COBIB.SI is addressed in this paper. These records have been publicly accessible in COBIB.SI since October 2009. The suggestion to import them was given by the Central Technological Library at the University of Ljubljana.
With the change of the social system, Hungarian libraries had to face new circumstances and, as a consequence, many of them ceased to exist. New library legislation introduced, among other novelties, “public libraries” and “library institutes”, which have an expert and coordination role, and the national interlibrary loan network, in which 56 large libraries participate.
The paper focuses on the German shared catalogue for serials – ZDB. The ZDB catalogue (Zeitschriftendatenbank) includes titles and holdings of serials, enables the automation of serials cataloguing and facilitates interlibrary loan. It was founded in 1973 when it was sustained by only a small number of libraries.
In 2005, Hirsch developed the today commonly known and widely used h-index, the shortest quantitative indicator of the cumulative influence and relevance of the academic work of an individual researcher, a research group or an institution (university, institute, journal, etc.).
The article describes the current situation of the Austrian library system and public libraries, especially with regard to the automation and bibliographic databases. In addition to that, it describes the history of the Slovenska študijska knjižnica (Slovene Study Library) in Klagenfurt, its importance for the Slovene national minority in Carinthia and its place in the Austrian and the Slovenian library system.
The definition of bibliometrics as quantitative analysis of publications is followed by a brief outline of the history of the journal Organizacija znanja (Organisation of Knowledge; continuation of Cobiss obvestila). In addition to that, the following quantitative characteristics of this publication are analysed: authors, topics, citations. The conclusion focuses on the future development of Organizacija znanja.
