Preserving cultural identity is equally important as preserving biodiversity. No country in the world can be regarded as culturally homogenous. Libraries are of key importance for coexistence in a multicultural environment and for the development of multicultural competence. COBISS operates in a region with strong multicultural characteristics and plays an active role in establishing multicultural dialogue. On the basis of the principle of reciprocity, tolerance and solidarity it takes into consideration the historical development of entities, equality of languages and scripts and the collective vision of the future. It also promotes the idea of consolidation of information, spread decades ago by UNESCO. The COBISS.Net network provides efficient support to bibliographic information exchange and represents infrastructure for intercultural dialogue.

    Kranj City Library is one of the largest Slovenian public libraries, which, like most Slovenian libraries, also deals with the debts of its users. Prohit Claims Management Agency helps us to collect the debts. Before collection by an external contractor, we first carry out a series of procedures in the library to collect the debts ourselves.       Foreign research reports low use of mobile devices for reading e-texts among students, so we investigated mobile reading behaviour among UL students. Since the results of the online survey showed that low use of mobile devices for reading e-texts is also characteristic of UL students, we wanted to investigate in more detail the reasons and barriers to the use of mobile devices for reading e-texts.

                The amendments to the Librarianship Act in 2015 redefined the status of school libraries and assigned new tasks associated with the monitoring of the activities and development of school libraries to the National and University Library (NUL). The statistical monitoring of activities performed by school libraries, the designing of the school library development strategy, the concept of three-year development plans and the development of regulations on the conditions to be met by school libraries in the field of education are among the new activities of the Library System Development Centre, NUL.
